I think I’m going to start a new section on my blog. I won’t be doing it every day, but sometimes, I think I am going to do a quick inventory of my “fashion point” for the day.
The main inspiration of this project is the Japanese Street Fashion magazine Fruits. Whenever they photograph a person with a cool outfit, they ask him or her “what is your point of fashion” or fashion point. The definition of “fashion point” would probably be “theme or inspiration.” Some of them are pretty obvious: a girl in a floral dress with flowers in her hair wanted to convey the idea of springtime, or another girl wearing many types of animal print will say that her fashion point was “animal prints.” Others are referencing a character from a comic book, a historic period, or an in-joke with friends. Sometimes the “point of fashion” of an outfit can be a striking accessory or several decorations in the same style (strawberry barrettes, brooch, and necklace). It can be quite obvious or it can be entirely obscure.
Sometimes the girls of Morning Musume do a “fashion check” where they discuss what they are wearing and what image they are trying to present:

I think that sometimes, I’ll take a picture of my accessories and write up what my intentions were with the theme.
My uniform is: White Blouse, Black Trousers (not jeans!) and Black Shoes. We have to wear a necktie or a scarf, and I have already got a pretty good choice of scarves because I was really into scarves for hair accessories when I was a teenager and I never got rid of them! I also know of several different ways of tying a scarf so I can create a different look with the same scarf. Plus there are always earrings and barrettes/hairpins/headbands to consider, and I have plenty of options there, too.
In a way, I think I am going to have fun with the uniform because it will force me to be creative with my accessories to create a “mood” and I will probably find myself using things that had been ignored for quite a while because they’d be too busy with my normal clothes.
I’m sure I will become heartily sick of the uniform after a while, but for the meantime, I intend to do the best with what I’ve got. For somebody who really enjoys fashion, this will be a challenge and I’ll probably eke an amount of discipline in outfit-planning out of it, too.
