I’m working on my annual Gonzo Baking project today. Actually, today, I am using standard recipes; I just did a huge batch of old-school brown sugar cookies, and I am about to get on with a double-batch of gingersnaps. I did cocoa-dark-chocolate-chip cookies the other night, and a batch of fig cookies flavored with nutmeg, cardamom, and a little bit of lemon extract.

It’s cold, grey, and icy today, and I’m staying my ass inside and hanging out in the warm kitchen, reading, clockwatching, and baking. Later, I will do some laundry, watch Beavis & Butthead videos and darn a couple of holey sweaters. Two kind Suspects gave me some of their old scrap yarn which I’m using to renovate a couple of old sweaters. I really like the sweaters in question, but so did some moths. As it turns out, some of the yarn was a PERFECT match, especially for my favorite red merino, and some green-brown-and-rust variagated is integrating nicely with a strange, grenish-brownish Shetland I’ve had since highschool. It is one of the ones that I will be doing some embroidery on once the holes are repaired and weak spots stabilized. I have three others to do; two different green sweaters (one bright, one dark) and a grey one. I’ll take and post pictures when I am done with all of my repairs.

The other thing I have done today was upload a collection of pictures of bird-houses, feeders, nests (and a Chinese cricket cage) into a Flickr set I’ve called “Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul,” after a They Might Be Giants song of the same name.

While I’m here, I want to bring attention to the general awesomeness of They Might Be Giants‘ websites because they are beautifully designed. The last link was the general portal for everything officially TMBG. This is/was their temporary new site, and this is the official official site. I am especially enamored of their podcast site, however. It’s visually exciting, has fun navigation, solid content, and it’s just plain pretty. I think the graphic randomness and slight surreality of it is an excellent pictorial representation of the They Might Be Giants style. They have a kids’ website, too and albums of children’s music.
