Ruby was a lost, burr-ridden, and kind of pathetic little puppy.
What you’re seeing there is a poor little pup who has worms, fleas, and hasn’t had a good, square meal in days. This is the animal who showed up on our back step on 7-27-08, about three months old, sickly, hungry, and timid, but willing to give a new family a chance.
A few regular meals and a lot of love, and she started to really bond with us, as well as develop confidence and an almost toxic quantity of cuteness.
She made friends she could just chill with.
Friends to look for trouble with.
And friends who aren’t afraid to tell her what they think.
Here she is today, replicating a very similar pose to that first series of photos Joel took. Today, she was resting after a particularly enthusiastic session of playing fetch.
Here’s another good compare-and-constrast. The first picture is from Ruby’s first night with us:
Just a couple of weeks ago, prior to a little bit of roughhousing.
Aw. Those first photos are so touching and sad. You did a wonderful thing by giving her the opportunity to become a happy, healthy animal.
She was awfully pitiful when she first showed up. I was actually pretty concerned at first…the de-worming upset her stomach,I think, and she went on a couple-days hunger strike, which I worried would be the end of her since she was already so bony and weak. We tempted her into eating with some fairly disgusting home-made dogfood, and after that, she has been an enthusiastic diner.
She is really just the sweetest little girl I’ve ever met, you are lucky to have each other!
Thanks, Sis. I do feel very lucky. She was a pup who needed a good home, and we were two people who wanted to give a dog a good home.
Awwww. She is adorable. I love how long legged she is.
She looks like quite the handful.
Generally speaking, she’s pretty much the opposite of a handful. Once in a while she gets into trouble (see the oatmeal incident) and she sure does like to pester/herd the cats, but on the whole, she’s a beautifully well behaved dog. She’s pretty mellow and a very eager-to-please pooch.
