Random Kansas City

There are some days and in some places, where Kansas City just looks really beautiful to me.

This view down Baltimore toward 9th is one I particularly enjoy.

This low-slung art-deco yellow brick building in the Crossroads area is another sight that caught my eye that particular day I was out cruising.

Another day, another bike ride, a not-half-bad skyline.

Same subject, different angle, different day. Taken from Kaw Point at the start of the Missouri 350, an epic canoe/kayak race.

Probably the image I will use on the flyer
Skyline framed by cruiser frame. I took that pic when I was creating some “clip art” for a flyer I was making.

I think I probably have an inordinate number of photos of the downtown skyline because I am probably over-impressed with urban skylines. This is a side-effect of my rural upbringing, and I always get all giddy when I see a city’s skyline on the horizon and it is very vertical. Skyscrapers are still big news to this rube, even if I’ve lived in the city for 8 years now.

Speaking of vertical, this is still one of my favorite photos I have ever taken; a view straight up of Oak Tower at 324 E. 11th St. It’s the old AT&T building, and I worked here for almost 4 years when I was in the Codes office. This is an old pic when I didn’t know any better about shooting in higher resolution and took fairly dinky pictures so as to fit more on my camera’s memory card. Now I know about quality vs. quantity, plus also my new camera can take a much higher-capacity memory card. Gotta love improved technology!

K.C. is quite a beautiful city! Great that you’ve lived there so long and can still see it.

For me, my time there has long since run it’s course. Doesn’t mean that I will ever forget the people, the cycling community, the architecture and some of the best damn mountain biking I’ve done anywhere in the world.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed them.

Sometimes, during this time of year when it is so cold and grey, it gives me a bit of a lift to look at pictures from sunnier times!

I tend to look for the awesome wherever I am at. I look even harder when I have a camera in my hands.
