On the ACME Saturday rides, we often find ourselves dumpster-diving. Once in a while, you hit a total jackpot and get something like a blowtorch.
And other times, you just see a heaping pile of junk, and maybe you’ll find a wee sprig of plastic lilies of the valley.
So, incrementally I’ve amassed a fair selection of random cool stuff I’ve found in dumpsters, on the street, or in trash piles. I justify my acquisitions in that they are free and I can use them in “an art project.”
Well, Sarah from ACME and a couple of Mott-Ly‘s friends are putting on an art show in remembrance of him, and I volunteered to make something based around this excellent vintage hat-block Mott-ly gave me a couple of years ago.
So, the first thing I did was make a hat for the head:
Then I made a diorama out of a box and a lot of random stuff, including three tiny robots who are working as attendants to the head.
Go head over and have a look at this one full-size…it’ll make more or less sense that way.
I’ve called this thing “Ooooh!! Shiny!!!!” and if you want to look at its bits and pieces in greater detail, I have a flickr set for it.
Everything except the head and hat is found-objects, and the head may well have been a found object, ’cause I know Mott-Ly rolled that way. The diorama is pretty much completed, AFAIK, but I may tweak it a little bit. I’ve got a couple of weeks before I need to turn it in, so it might evolve some…or mutate.
When we get around to August & the Tour De Tetanus kicks off, rest assured that the fabulous prizes will be hand-crafted from my generous stash of “found objects.”
The amount of awesome in this thread is overwhelming. WTF is the pig jar head thing?
The pig-jar-head thing is something I found in a dumpster last summer. It also has a butt.
